THE NATIONAL LIBRARY OF LEBANON
Awarded 3rd PRIZE for the project "The National Library of Lebanon", in a competition organised by the French Consortium of Metal Construction to promote the use of steel structure in modern Architecture.
My main objective was to create an urban space that was both an architectural experience and a cultural haven.
Through the 'PALIMPSEST' concept, I treated the common axis between the three Beirut plans as the generator of a whole series of sub-axis. The steel frame structure and double glass facade system was the best way to express the intersection of orthogonal layout grids, creating an asymmetry in the site, a transparent architecture and an integration of the landscaped gardens and alleys.
